'Lighting the Way Home was inspired by a feeling many of us know well — coming back to Cork, especially at Christmas. It captures the glow of the city along the River Lee, the lights reflected on the water, and that quiet sense of warmth and belonging that tells you you’re home, even before you arrive.
The Port of Cork glows softly, representing centuries of stories, arrivals and departures, and the deep connection between the port and the life of the city. The festive lights sweeping through the scene echo welcome, connection and return, while the calm water reflects both movement and stillness.
Created as the cover artwork for the 2025 Holly Bough, this piece celebrates Cork at Christmas and honours a publication that has long held a special place in the city’s cultural life. Whether chosen as a gift or a personal keepsake, Lighting the Way Home is intended as a lasting memento of Cork City, its stories, its light, and the enduring tradition of finding your way home at Christmas.
