Bathed in autumn sunlight, Parliament Square at Trinity College Dublin feels timeless — a place where history, learning, and quiet beauty meet. Though best known today for its elegant 18th-century architecture, this square carries a far older story. Long before the university was founded, the grounds were home to the Augustinian Priory of All Hallows, established almost nine hundred years ago by the High King of Leinster. Here, monks once walked in prayer and painstakingly produced manuscripts until the priory’s dissolution in 1538.
A stroll through time at Trinity College captures that deep sense of continuity, sunlight warming the stone, silence settling over the square, and centuries of memory lingering in every arch and shadow. It is an image of calm in the very heart of Dublin, where the past and present live side by side.
